Bloody, bloody, bloody….
Why is it that when one person has a bad day, so many others you know seem to have one too? Take today for example. Three seperate friends had a shitty day. All three of them managed to catch my eye, begin to talk to me about it and then watch me walk off because I am busy, busy, bloody busy, I didn’t have time to listen. For all three of them, it wasn’t just a “someone has pissed me off” moment either. All three of them had some bad stuff going on.
Most of you know where I work and to say things are starting to get busy for me is an understatement. For almost six months I have been working on a very important project which has already been of benefit and if I have my way, it’s impact will spread far and wide. It has been hard, but steady work. From last Thursday, this was put on hold and I am now back to the “day job” and it has been quite a shock to the system. I am not one to grumble about such things and to be honest I love being busy, part of a plan and neccessary but today, three friends had to suffer and that is not good. I did manage to speak to one just before she went home tonight and got half of a story but that’s all.
Three things to do at work tomorrow then…
Aside from the above, Xmas is going well. I have met loads of new people and so far (touch wood) not a bad one amongst them. Plenty of characters but no-one to be frightened of as far as I can see. As usual, the organisation is a complete nightmare and I am happy to be just far enough away from the hell of it to be safe and just close enough to be useful. I have done it a few times before and my immediate colleagues seem happy to let me get on with it and take a few decisions.
The temps are mostly a happy lot and they haven’t objected too strongly to being moved about quite a bit and asked to sign many, many pieces of paper.
It is something of a tradition that at some point during the first few days, I ask for the teams attention and say “can I just check…(pause as they prepare for another form to sign)…is anyone not having fun?” In previous years, a few smile and the rest just look at me oddly. Today I did it and one guy in a dirty white hoody punched the air and said “hell yes!”.
I may buy him a Xmas present.
