Arkwright On The Night

Working It
The trouble with blogs written at 11pm is that I always feel like Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours. You know, that bit at the end of this episode when he puts all the stuff from outside into the shop, stands in the open door way with his hands in his overcoat pockets and philosophises on the day, beginning with the words “Its been a funny old day…”.

Luckily for him, he didn’t have to write it down and hence didn’t have to wonder whether it should be its or it’s. I certainly can never remember.

Luckily for me and appropriately considering my open words, it has indeed been a funny old day (you see what I did there??)..

Going back to work after a bank holiday must suck if a) you hate your job and b) have to get up at the crack of dawn.

As I have often intimated, neither of the above apply to me. I love my job and I don’t start work until 2pm. At 1pm I meet one of my favourite people on the planet and wait for her to get ready for work. Then we drive to work and spend 20 minutes putting the world to rights.

When I get to work, I have a cuppa, sit down and decide what to listen to on my IPod. Then I enter “the zone” and type like my life depends on it for an hour. Once an hour, I get a 10 minute break and have a wander. During this break I wander about and talk to other people I like. Then I listen to my IPod or chat with those who sit around me until its breaktime again. Then I have lunch. Then I type….well I am sure you get the idea.

It is not a hard job. It is not a perfect job but I have certainly had worse. I listen to a lot of music and a lot of audiobooks and I make sure that approximately 10,000 pieces of mail get to their destination. I think this is quite cool.

I am not going anywhere with this by the way.

Another First
So what else happened today?

Well, someone who doesn’t matter read this blog and said that it is a bit boring and I come across as a bit conceited. Also, I used “I” and “My” too much. How about I use “FUCK OFF” a little more? There. I feel better.
This person matters so little that I am not even cross. I wonder if it’s so bad they will read it again tonight? Something tells me I will know tomorrow quite quickly.

So a day can start off good and end even better. One of my other most favourite people on the planet is my manager for the next 2 weeks or so…

..and finally, someone else in the favourite people on the planet category is not as unhappy as I thought she was and she made me smile again.

When is this all going to stop?

I will let you know.

TV Round Up
Lost has finished. Amazing. No, really. It wavered a bit in the last series and looked increasingly like they were making it up as they went along but the last 3 or 4 episodes were great. The final two hour episode proved, like a lot of stuff at the moment that US TV is in a bit of a golden age at the moment. I won’t go into detail in case you haven’t seen it, but the final blow at the end is one of the most perfectly composed pieces of storytelling I have ever seen. It’s just a pity that we have to wait until January 2008 for the next new episode.

Heroes finished last week too. The last episode couldn’t possibly live up to what went before and it didn’t. It was still great though.

Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Heroes…all off now until the autumn at the earliest.

I had to resort to watching old videos of Bottom last night.

I laughed until I coughed.

Don’t you just love re-discovering things?
