Time to come back.

Well, here I am again. Time to come back into the world of literally almost a dozen readers.

It’s almost Old Boys again which is hard to believe. Where the hell does the time go?

Diabetes
As I said on the forum, I was diagnosed with type II diabetes on 17th August. They say its an ill wind that blows and all that tripe, but I am forced to wonder. You see, apart from one trip to the GP about 15 years ago when I woke up with a dry mouth and a tongue the size of a small bread roll, I hadn’t been to the doctor since Dr Watson last gave me a chit off swimming and drill in the mid 80s. I am not setting myself up as Mr Healthy or anything, its just that I don’t like doctors. Actually, thats wrong and unfair. I don’t like GOING to the doctors. After 17th August, I guess I still don’t. Anyhow, to reassure my family mainly, I toddled off to my GP and over the proceeding 10 days, gave about 3 gallons of blood up for testing. The first batch came back ok and I didn’t feel to bad. Yes, my blood pressure was high, partly as guessed by the doctor because of my nervousness. After I calmed down and felt more relaxed on my 3rd visit, it was only “a bit” high and I left with instructions to lose weight, exercise more and to change my diet. The next visit brought the shock. My “fasting” blood test results showed the diabetes. I left the surgery with a leaflet and a strange numbness. After reading the leaflet and an hour or two viewing websites, I felt a bit better. Type II diabetes is quite common and can be controlled by diet - indeed, borderline as I am, if I am lucky I might be able to eventually free of it.

I had already given up sugar, caffeine, chocolate and sweets, white bread and most of the other crap when my dad died. After news like that and hearing some of the more frightening facts about diabetes (blindness is way up at the top of the list) this change to my life is coming a lot easier than I thought. Of course, dieting for high blood pressure and keeping my sugar levels right is not gonna be easy but after 17 days, I am still losing weight. Quite where it’s going from is another matter. Mum says she can see it in my face and others have noticed a difference.

I would love to report today’s exact weight but the cat pissed on the scales yesterday and now they are not working.

Sporting Legacy

My niece Sophie played her first football match yesterday morning in the Plymouth Under 10’s league. No photos unfortunately, but the parents amongst you will know why. Its a damn shame. She looked so good in her blue, locally sponsored kit. They lost 4-1 in the end but it was about 10 times more exciting than I ever thought. I will let you know how she gets on in the coming months. Apart from Sophie’s face-reddening efforts, I was amazed by two of her teammates. The goalkeeper was amazing and kept at least 10 out to my knowledge. She and another girl, train with Argyle and it bloody shows. 10 year old girl strikers doing dummies and back-kicks? 10 year old goalies punching balls and kicking 3/4 the length of the pitch. The next match is two weeks away and I can’t wait.

Spam

Spam on the site is getting worse. I will now be moderating all comments on the blog, so be patient if you don’t see them straight away. The guestbook too is getting hit. The forum just suffers from robot user registration but its still bloody annoying. My spam email count is around 1000 a day now and there seems to be buggar all I can do about it. Why?!?!?!
