Search Engines
Bloody things.
Hands up all those people that think search engines contain links to every word and every page on the internet?
About half of you. Thought so.
If you go to any Search Engine - actually Yahoo, Google and MSN are the only real ones left these days - and enter DYRMS, do you see what you get?
1. & 2. Chad’s DYRMS net site. Deservedly so. He has been here longer than most of us.
3. The DYRMS Official Bannerware site. They probably paid a huge wad for this position.
4. DYRMS86.org.uk…which hasn’t existed for ages. It will still take you to the current site but thats hardly the point.
and so on…
You see, many factors get you onto a search engine, not least of which is keywords. Embedded in the code of most (if not all) of my pages are up to 25 keywords. These are generally the things I would expect people to put into search engines to find me. For instance, off the top of my head they are…”duke, york, royal, military, school, dyrms, dover, kent, dukie, old, boys, guston, CT15, haig, kitchener, roberts, wolseley, wellington, clive, wolfe, marlborough”. Now, the problem is, to be placed high in the rankings of Google for “DYRMS”, I have to mention DYRMS a lot on the page. Guess what? How many times do I mention it? None. Same goes for the other words.
Does this make sense?
Now do you understand why my head hurts?
Bleeeergh. Late night geek headache.
